Stranger Things!

Offer hope 2 Her body shook with sobs, makeup smeared and mascara was leaving trails as it ran down her face as she shared the heartbreaking story of her life.  She was tired, anxious, and stressed to the breaking point as she daily carried this burden way too enormous for anyone’s heart.

She had held onto the life-size hurt much too long and letting go seemed impossible, yet the struggle had become unbearable.

As she shared her story I noticed her hands.  Her fingernails had all been eaten off into the quick as a result of nerves, they were red and appeared terribly sore, but most of the time she held her hands clenched tight as if she somehow seemed to be physically holding the pain.

I didn’t know her!

She was a complete stranger, but God’s hand was all over the circumstances that brought her to me that evening.  She was a stranger to me, but my heart melted and wanted to know her and help her.  To God she was one of his lost sheep reaching out.

As we talked, shared, and prayed, she reached her hands out, got my hands and squeezed them so hard it was painful.  She needed hope.  As she released them, she kept saying, “Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!”

She has a long way to go, but God started a work in her heart that night.

The highway of life is full of hurting people, strangers, yet people not so different from us.

I am thankful for the hand of a loving God who loves, cares and touches the hearts of those who reach out to him with the hurts their clenched hands and hearts have carried way to long!

Every Friday I link up with 300+ writers at Five Minute Friday and we all write for 5 minutes on one word.  This week our word is hands.
